Location: New Brighton beach
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called to New Brighton beach on Friday 30th August after reports a dog was in distress.
Crews were called to the beach around 7.10pm. Two fire engines attended, as well as the search and rescue appliance.
On arrival crews found a beagle, named Molly, trapped between the rocks against the sea wall, between the beach and the marine lake.
It is believed Molly had fallen whilst out walking with its owner and another beagle dog.
SM Andy Blythe said: “There was a cavity under the rocks of approx. 6 foot which prevented Molly from climbing back out. The sea was at low water at the time of the incident occurring but a high spring tide was due in around midnight which would have submerged the rocks the dog was trapped under.
“Firefighters from Wallasey, Birkenhead and our Search and Rescue Team worked very hard alongside members of the Wirral and Flint Coastguard Teams to release Molly safely after approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes.
“Crews used a combination of hydraulic rescue equipment and manual tirfor winches to move rocks sufficiently to create space for a firefighter to reach down and retrieve Molly. She was reunited with its owner having suffered no injuries.”
Crews left the scene at 8.46pm.
