Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority (MFRA) shares the Chief Fire Officer’s ambition to make Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) the very best fire and rescue service in the country.  This ambition includes striving to make our fire and rescue services inclusive and fairly delivered to all Diverse Community in Merseyside.

We believe that everyone is equal and that differences should be respected and harnessed to help better understand and serve our communities.

In line with the responsibility placed in the Authority by the Equality Act 2010 we have established five Equality objectives that are both inward looking (employee focused) and outward looking (community and service delivery related).

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives and actions that stem from them are a key part of our corporate plans and have been for several years. During this time we have made good progress in ensuring that we show due regard to the needs of different community groups and unrepresentative and diverse staff as we develop and implement our plans, policies and procedures.

We value and respect difference and harness the creativity that this brings across our workforce, this in turn ensures that difference helps us with our services we deliver.

We are committed to promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the delivery of our services to the public and through our employment practices and policies for staff. These key values drive how we treat each other and how we interact with the communities of Merseyside.

The Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) help to guide us in delivering our day to day activities and in considering the effect of those activities and employment practices on people who share different Protected Characteristics.
