Fire crews have been called to a fire at a scrap facility at Canada Dock, Sandhills this morning. Crews were alerted at 2.38am and on scene at 2.45am, with four fire engines an an aerial appliance in attendance.
Crews arrived to find a large pile of scrap metal around 20 metres by 20 metres across and 10 metres high with smoke issuing from it. Crews began to fight the fire with hose reel jets.
A high volume pump (HVP) has been requested to pump water from the dock onto the fire and the incident has been divided into sectors.
Residents and businesses nearby should keep doors and windows closed. If you have an existing health condition keep medicines close by and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.
